Something Different…

I want to play around with my painting style for a while and work a little more expressively. Of course, the first question was… What to paint? As I found myself agonizing and obsessing over this one simple step, I needed to just let go and dig in.

So I picked up an old self-portrait that I had already started a few years back and had at it. I was really unhappy with the existing painting and it was destined for the trash anyway. So that gave me the permission I needed to allow myself to just friggin’ PLAY.

I can’t say that I’m thrilled with where it’s going just yet… But at least I’m attacking it in a way that may lead the way to some more expressive work down the road a bit.

Unfortunately, I neglected to make a photo of the portrait before I started in today… So you can't see just how bad it was. But maybe that's just as well.
