Simple by Design

I slipped on the ice this morning bringing in firewood. Although I didn’t fall, I did give my back a nice little twist. Not a good start to the day.

The pain in my back isn’t terrible, but it made standing at the easel a bit uncomfortable. So I decided that I would keep the work as simple as possible and spare myself a little.

Today’s painting is a small 5" x 5" panel of a Black & White cat from a photo by Israel Gómez Martínez on FreeImages.com. I did a very quick block-in, and then decided to go right into knife painting. I laid the paint on pretty thick and then tried to leave be to preserve the nice juicy paint.

I have to say, I’m pretty happy with the results. Now… time to go get off my feet and rest my back.
